The Legend of Nyi Roro Kidul

Long ago, in the land of Pajajaran Kingdom, there lived a beautiful princess named Kadita. She was the daughter of King Prabu Siliwangi, and her beauty was admired by many. People even called her the most beautiful woman in the kingdom.

But not everyone was happy with her presence. The king's new queen, filled with jealousy and hatred, could not stand Kadita’s popularity. She wanted her own son to become the next king. So, she went to a dark shaman and ordered him to curse Kadita.

The next morning, terrible things happened. Kadita’s body was covered in painful boils and wounds. No doctor could heal her. People who once admired her now avoided her out of fear. The king, heartbroken and pressured by the court, decided to send Kadita away from the palace.

Kadita wandered alone for days until she reached the southern coast of Java. Tired and hopeless, she stood facing the vast ocean. Then, a mysterious voice whispered in her heart, asking her to enter the sea. Trusting the voice, she stepped into the waves.

As she swam, her wounds disappeared. Her skin became flawless, and she felt a powerful energy surrounding her. She was reborn as a spiritual queen of the ocean—Nyi Roro Kidul, the Queen of the Southern Sea.

Even today, many believe that Nyi Roro Kidul still lives in the Indian Ocean, especially near the southern coast of Java. People say she can take those who wear green clothes at the beach, as green is her sacred color.

Legenda Nyi Roro Kidul

Dahulu kala, di kerajaan Pajajaran, hiduplah seorang putri cantik bernama Kadita. Ia adalah putri dari Prabu Siliwangi, dan kecantikannya dikagumi banyak orang.

Namun, permaisuri baru raja merasa iri. Ia ingin anaknya menjadi raja, maka ia meminta bantuan dukun jahat untuk mengutuk Kadita.

Esok harinya, tubuh Kadita dipenuhi luka dan penyakit. Tak ada yang bisa menyembuhkannya. Kadita diusir dan berjalan sendiri hingga ke pantai selatan. Suara gaib menyuruhnya masuk ke laut. Saat ia berenang, semua lukanya sembuh dan ia berubah menjadi Nyi Roro Kidul, Ratu Pantai Selatan.

Konon katanya, hingga kini ia masih menjaga lautan selatan dan bisa membawa siapa saja yang memakai pakaian hijau ke istananya di dasar laut.
